Wesley Fofana will not be in Leicester’s squad this weekend to face Southampton tomorrow, according to a report in the Athletic today.
They write that it’s at the player’s request, but we’ve since had conflicting reports claiming that it was the club’s decision.
Either way, it all points towards a transfer to Chelsea taking place. The buildup has been slow and steady – we’ve not heard much this week after he made some pretty obvious farewell gestures to the Foxes fans last weekend after their defeat against Arsenal.
At this point, if Leicester have accepted their star defender wants to go, it’s in everyone’s interest to let it happen as soon as possible. They need to replace him, and Chelsea want him in the team as soon as possible.
The fact that he won’t play tomorrow means a deal should be done over the weekend, or early next week – at long last.
