Earlier this summer, Armando Broja looked like he was on the way out of Chelsea, but the last couple of months have seen a massive turnaround, and now not only is he staying for the season, he’s also signed a new contract.
For a while he was the only real striker on our books, and while he does now have some competition, it’s all from a player who he will be able to learn from, and hopefully gradually replace through the next year or so.
“He is a great player,” Broja said of his new teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in quotes picked up by the Evening Standard.
“He has done a lot in his career so far and now he has come to Chelsea I can learn a lot from him.
“He has done it at Arsenal and Barcelona, so he is a good addition to the club and the team and he seems like a very good guy.
“I am excited to learn off him and a few things he has learned. It is good to have that competition in the team.”
Even without the Gabon striker in the squad Broja has yet to start a game, with all his minutes coming as a sub, but tomorrow night’s game against Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League group stage gives him a great chance, especially with his new teammate still out injured.
We can’t wait to see what Broja can do this season, and while the arrival of a rival is going to cost him playing time, it should also bring him plenty of opportunities to improve too.
