Chelsea agree part-exchange deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that – at last – Chelsea have agreed a deal with Barcelona for Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

The transfer looked off not long ago, with reports of difficulties in agreeing a fee coming out as recently as yesterday.

But with the pressure of the deadline closing in, a deal has finally been hammered out.

In the end, it looks pretty close to the setup that Chelsea wanted. They get Aubameyang for a small fee of €14m, plus send Marcos Alonso the other way.

There’s plenty of dissent about signing the forward, who Arsenal were happy to pack off to Barcelona back in January for almost nothing. The idea is that he’s worked well with Thomas Tuchel before, and they can rekindle that relationship.

Let’s hope so – Tuchel’s job may depend on it if results don’t change. This team needs goals, and they’ve just signed a 33 year old to get them.
