Chelsea give up on sporting director pre-World Cup

Chelsea’s search for a sporting director has turned into a bit of a farce, and it seems like the Blues have now given up on the idea of having someone in place before the World Cup.

Pursuit of the top dogs in the game – Michael Edwards and Luis Campos – ended up unsuccessful – they then moved on to lower level targets from the Red Bull group.

The current most likely target is Tim Steidten of Bayer Leverkusen.

He’s a potential rising star, and apparently more achievable than some of the established top names.

Either way, it seems getting a deal done before the World Cup kicks off in 6 weeks looks tricky.

Whoever does come in will be working with Kyle Macauley, the recruitment analyst from Brighton who joined the club alongside Graham Potter in the summer, and has already made a good impression.
