Chelsea upstairs to assess disastrous goalkeeping situation at club

Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation seems pretty up in the air at the moment from the outside – and that’s been all but confirmed from the inside by Matt Law’s latest piece.

It’s focus is on the chase for Jude Bellingham, but there’s nice nuggets about several other matters at the club.

On the goalkeeping front, he says that the club “will assess whether or not [they] need to sign a new goalkeeper.”

The situation with Edouard Mendy isn’t great – he is still on the contract he signed when he arrived two years ago, and this would be the natural moment for a new deal.

Unfortunately his form has been poor, so offering him anything significant now feels like a mistake.

Kepa is in a similar boat – crawling to the end of his long deal with nobody interested in buying him, and the club not interested in extending him. A new signing seems almost inevitable, sooner or later.

  1. No doubt a new goal keeper is needed very soon. Both kepa and Mendy are a total Liability.
