Graham Potter has just taken his first press conference as Chelsea manager, and while the focus supposedly tomorrow night’s game against RB Salzburg, the reality is that everyone wanted to hear about his appointment.
He went to great lengths to praise the owners who picked him, apparently after long discussions which seem to really have convinced Potter this was the right move to make at this stage in his career.
“Things happened incredibly quickly, we had some very intense conversations with the owners and quickly I realised they were very intelligent people. Intelligent people, who have made a big success of their life outside of football and wanting to achieve something here,” Potter said in quotes picked up by Football.London.
“It’s really exciting, the project here is really exciting. The ideas [they had] about taking the club forward. It felt really positive. I’m not going to lie, it’s been a whirlwind in terms of getting to know people, leaving Brighton, getting to know the players, getting to know them, but it’s been really, really positive.”
Now of course he’s hardly going to be negative about a group who have just serious stuck their necks out to appoint him as their manager, but this still feels very keen praise from the former Brighton boss.
Let’s hope that Potter is proved to be correct in his assessments of their abilities, and that their appointment of him as their first chosen coach proves to be the first of many masterstrokes.

Has anyone at ChelseaNews taken even 5 minutes to check out what Boehly has done to resurrect the Los Angeles Dodgers franchise? Doubtful. SuperFrank and company are too busy passing smug, petty judgement based on bias and slim evidence. So, yeah if Potter says the new owners are “intelligent” it must be because he’s kissing ass. It couldn’t possibly be an honest sentiment, nor could it have any relationship to fact that the same owners successfully resurrected the Los Angeles Dodgers, turning them into the winningest Major League Baseball franchise of the last DECADE. No, that would mean acknowledging inconvenient facts that might fly in the face of SuperFrank’s preferred narrative—the one about the bumbling, know-nothing-about-football American owners he keeps foisting on us.
