How “low key” new Chelsea manager approached first two weeks in the job

The Athletic’s piece on Graham Potter’s first two weeks as Chelsea boss reveals that the coach has had a relaxed, and “low key” attitude towards training in this mini-break since our last Premier League game.

There have been individual meetings with players, informal discussions and gentle preparations for the slog of a season still to come.

He’s had one on one meetings with every player in the squad as he scrambles to get to know them well enough to put his masters in emotional intelligence to use.

It’s also apparently been important to communicate changes to the players in a simple and open way.

It all sounds positive, but it all also sounds very much like what we would expect most football managers to do. We can read puff pieces all day about how friendly the new staff are behind the scenes, but it won’t matter a jot if we lose against Crystal Palace this weekend.
