The CIES Football Observatory always drop their good content at the start of the international break to get people talking, and this post summer window effort is no exception.
It has teams in the top 5 European leagues sorted by how much they “overpaid” since 2012.
That is to say, the comparison between the final fee and what CIES rated that player as being worth.
Chelsea are 6th in terms of gross overpayment, spending €135m more than the players they bought were nominally worth.
Given the awful moves we’ve made in that time… that’s better than we expected.
