OFFICIAL: Marcos Alonso leaves Chelsea with contract mutually terminated

Marcos Alonso’s contract at Chelsea has been terminted by mutual consent, to allow the left back to join Barcelona, the Chelsea official website have confirmed.

It’s all part of a complicated deal to bring in Pierre Emerick Aubameyang without upsetting Barca’s complex wage cap problems it seems. But what matters is that after 6 years, Alonso has left Chelsea.

Where do we start on his legacy? The Spaniard is the definition of a cult hero, coming up big in some crucial moments, while never performing well enough for long enough to be considered just a straight hero.

The left wing back brought us plenty of great memories, and his introduction to the team in Antonio Conte’s title winning season will always go down as a moment worthy of “iconic” status.

His match winners and his goals against Tottenham will always mean he has a fond place in Chelsea fans’ hearts.

Good luck in La Liga, Marcos!
