People are trying to make sense of the surprise sacking of Thomas Tuchel, and various exclusives are popping up all over the shop with explanations of how things turned sour so quickly.
Tuchel’s influence – or lack thereof – in the pursuit of Jules Kounde seems to have played a part.
CBS’ Ben Jacobs writes that Todd Boehly and the ownership had agreed a transfer fee with Sevilla for the defender, and was relying on Tuchel to persuade him to join.
In the end, Tuchel wasn’t sure he wanted Kounde, and so wasn’t able to get him on board. The Frenchman joined Barcelona, and Chelsea were forced to scramble and end up paying mega money for Wesley Fofana.
That damned Kounde – we had to write about him for over a year, he mugged us off for Barca, and he took our manager with him.
It’s fair to say he’s not our favourite player now.
