The group of coaches that Graham Potter brought with him to Chelsea are hardly A list celebrities, but one of them certainly has a strong connection to the club.
New goalkeeper coach Ben Roberts was in goal for Middlesbrough in the 1997 FA Cup final, when he was beaten by Roberto di Matteo’s famous goal after less than a minute to win the Blues their first major trophy in years.
The Daily Mail claim that Potter and his new coach spotted a picture of the moment at Chelsea’s training ground when they toured Cobham following their arrival at the club – much to Potter’s amusement.
Let’s hope Roberts can have a positive influence at Chelsea. We’ve got two goalkeepers who are not playing at the best of their ability, and a change up in the coaching is the best remedy for that.
We really don’t want to be back in the market buying goalies in a year’s time.
