After a long day of updates on Reece James, going back and forth on his injury.
Finally we have the official statement from the club, who have confirmed the good news and the bad news.
The good is that James won’t have surgery – at least they don’t say as much. They say he will just have a “rehabilitation” period.
The bad news is that even without the surgery, he will be out for eight weeks.
That almost certainly means his World Cup dream is over. It will be a sad day in the James household tonight.
Frustratingly, the pursuit of summer transfer targets proved unsuccessful in his position, and it looks likely to be Cesar Azpilicueta or Ruben Loftus-Cheek filling in for two months or more.
It’s all a chilling reminder of when the wheels came of this time a year ago, when Ben Chilwell and James both suffered injury problems.
