Mason Mount was notable by his absence from training photos yesterday, as plenty of fans picked up on.
Later in the day Simon Johnson – presumably following up on that fact – confirmed that the midfielder had a thigh injury which requires a scan.
The Athletic say that he’s still hoping to be fit for the game against Aston Villa tomorrow, and this is just a precaution. We still think he’s odds on to play, but may be used more carefully than he usually is. If we have a healthy lead, don’t expect to see him play the full 90.
Mount has been as much an ever present under Graham Potter as he was under Thomas Tuchel, so losing him would be a huge blow, especially given the other injuries we’ve got.
With Reece James out, Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be moved to right wing back, taking two players out of a midfield which is already lacking N’Golo Kante.
