We’ve all been impressed by Graham Potter’s ruthless changes as Chelsea coach. He’s got 5 subs and he’s not afraid to use them.
Last week against Aston Villa he made his changes early and in numbers, and this week he hasn’t even waited until the second half.
Chelsea simply weren’t functioning in the first half, with their shape all over the shop. Marc Cucurella had struggled at left centre back last week against Man City, and he struggled again today.
It wasn’t just his fault – the whole shape was struggling and Man U were looking like scoring.
Potter didn’t mess around. With just 36 minutes on the clock he made the switch, taking off Cucurella and bringing on Mateo Kovacic to reinforce the midfield.
It’s worked so far- the whole team look far better now and the back four is suiting us a lot better. Eventually, he will start getting the formula right from the start.
