Unlucky Chelsea midfield option doesn’t have a space in new look squad

Almost the entire Chelsea squad has been involved under Graham Potter – it’s been one of the best parts of his time in charge so far.

Even Carney Chukwuemeka finally made his debut yesterday, coming on for a spell in midfield at the end.

But there is still one player who has yet to get a chance – Denis Zakaria. The midfielder, on loan from Juventus, hasn’t played a single minute this season.

He was seemingly brought in by Thomas Tuchel at the deadline, but the coach was sacked within days, leaving Zakaria in limbo. Yesterday N’Golo Kante was out and Mateo Kovacic was rested – yet Zakaria couldn’t get a single minute, even off the bench. That’s pretty bad news for his prospects.

Fabrizio Romano has reported on the situation today, and while he has no concrete information about what will happen, the strong hints are that the midfielder could return to Italy in January.
