One of the interesting parts of Graham Potter’s Chelsea lineup today was his use of Raheem Sterling at wing back.
Even Potter couldn’t pretend that the experiment worked – he had quickly switched the team around to a new look in the first half.
He noted that “the balance of the team” was not what he wanted with that move in place, and admitted that using Marc Cucurella at left centre back wasn’t working either.
Sterling just didn’t get into effective positions today, aside from his chance which hit the bar, and getting him into dangerous areas will be as important as getting a solid replacement for James sorted.
