Kepa got his first starts under Graham Potter because Edouard Mendy was injured, but as time has gone by it’s become clear he’s the real first choice.
Potter confirmed that today, saying that “his form is pleasing” but denying that he made decisions like that permanently. He will pick them according to form, or as he puts it, he will let “football decide.”
For now, the defence is protecting Kepa very well, and it’s hard to see where Mendy gets his chance. But on the evidence of Kepa’s Chelsea career so far, he’s never too far away from a tricky patch.
