Chelsea confirm Armando Broja ACL surgery

Chelsea have just confirmed what we already knew from insiders yesterday – Armando Broja has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will need surgery on it.

The club just released a statement on their site explaining that the forward is expected to miss the remainder of this season.

That much was clear pretty much from the moment we heard his screams – we didn’t even need the physios there to tell us it was a seriously bad one.

The worry now is now about this season for Armando, which is a write off. The worry is that he will lose some of his speed and explosiveness following the surgery. These things have come a long way even in the last 20 years, but there’s always a chance he comes back a lesser player.

Even if he’s back at 100%, we will likely have new options up top by then, and Broja probably won’t get a chance to play as often as he had been in the last couple of months.
