OFFICIAL: Benoit Badiashile signs for Chelsea

Chelsea have announced the signing of Benoit Badiashile in a post on the club website just now.

Still just 21, the France star has been considered a top prospect since he was a teenager, and recently made his debut for the senior French team.

He’s played almost 150 times for Monaco in all competitions, including games in the Europa League and Champions League.

A tall central defender, he will step in and immediately play an important role as a the left sided central defensive option, especially while his countryman Wesley Fofana is injured.

The seven and a half year deal he has been given is another illustration of the interesting new direction the club is taking, having lost to many good first team players on free transfers in the last year.

The piece quotes Badiashile comments upon signing his deal:

“I’m very happy to be here at Chelsea. I’m so excited to start playing for this club. I can’t wait to see the fans and start playing in the best league in the world.”

Our busy January rolls on, and we expect plenty more business.
