Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has completed a move to cross-town rivals Arsenal, the club confirmed on their official website just now.
The divisive midfielder won plenty at Chelsea despite not being everyone’s cup of tea, and has been a mainstay in our midfield under various managers since arriving along with Maurizio Sarri four and a half years ago.
It’s a pretty stunning development give we hadn’t heard a whisper about it until this morning. The situation with his contract was pretty clear – he was going to leave on a free transfer in the summer – so Chelsea will be happy to get money for him at all. The fee is believed to be around £12m, not bad for 6 months.
He will now get a chance to win the Premier League – one major trophy which has so far eluded him in England.
The question is where it leaves our already undermanned midfield… could we yet see a late arrival?
It may be a bit of a rocky transition initially without “the metronome” in our midfield, but this was really a smart move to get money for a guy who isn’t part of our future and who was going to leave for free. We just have to keep that in mind when/if we struggle a bit to find fluency in moving the ball through the midfield in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed we can yet land Fernandez to fill the hole.
