Manchester City charged by UEFA for FFP breach – should Chelsea worry?

Manchester City have been charged by the premier league in relation to more than 100 breaches of financial fair play rules.

The investigation has been ongoing for several years and it is expected that the Manchester club will fight against the charges.

Chelsea fans online have been making jokes about who they are going to sign now these charges are in place with some even advocating for Pep Guardiola to take over as the Blues manager but in all seriousness, should Chelsea worry about FFP?

Well, I don’t think so, and I am sure Behdad Egbhali and Todd Boehly will be watching this case closely. Chelsea have spent an eye watering 600 million plus since the takeover last year, however as mentioned before, a lot of the spending was done on longer term contracts which allows the club to spread the cost of a transfer fee and wages for a longer period of time, therefore looking better on the financial books.

Chelsea are also planning a fire sale this summer, with academy graduates such as Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus Cheek and potentially even Mason Mount moved on for fee’s that return as guaranteed profit.

Furthermore, Chelsea had 1.5 Billion pounds worth of debt written off by former owner Roman Abramovich, giving more lee way for the new owners to spend.

Chelsea’s owners could also add a financial boost by replacing current shirt sponsor three with a larger sponsorship deal once the current deal ends this summer.

  1. Man City’s biggest fraud was to claim that money from their owners in Aby Dhabi was merely sponsorship income

UEFA declared this to be a fraud, but the Appeal Court let them off the hook on a techicality.

The Premier League won’t be as soft
