Ben Chilwell has agreed to extend his Chelsea contract by two years, the club have confirmed on their official website.
The left back’s deal was set to expire in 2025, but will now be at Stamford Bridge until at least 2027 if he sees out the contract.
We’ve heard intense rumours about the agreement for the last 48 hours, so this is not a surprise, but it’s great to see a deal is done and we can now move on to other areas of the team where outstanding contract issues could be set to hurt us.
Chilwell has been brilliant since signing from Leicester in 2020, despite having both this season and last heavily affected by injury. The team’s dips in form have coincided neatly with his absences, and even resting him this weekend against Leicester seemed to cause a major dropoff in performance.
Let’s hope these next 4 years are injury free and he can continue to establish himself as one of the world’s best.
