Chelsea’s push for two €60m goalkeepers seems to be making progress

Chelsea’s need for a new goalkeeper this summer is clear, but the Blues are just being linked time and again with the same two players. That hopefully shows that they are our top targets and that we are making progress on signing them.

Both Andre Onana and Mike Maignan play in the same city, and both have had good seasons.

According to a report from La Repubblica in Italy, we are ready to offer €60m for Milan glovesman Maignan after his impressive season. He really does look like one of the world’s top 3 or 4 goalkeeprs at the moment.

If that doesn’t work out, we have a backup – a little less money plus Kalidou Koulibaly on loan to Inter in return for Andre Onana, who has also had a good campaign.

They even include the detail that Inter have a potential replacement lined up – Guglielmo Vicario.

It’s going to be a steep fee for a keeper whichever one we go for, but the fact we’re not seeing us strongly linked with other targets at the moments suggests to us that progress is still being made on both fronts.

It doesn’t seem to have got as far as an official offer just yet, but there has been chatter for long enough that we wouldn’t expect that to take long either. Once our preliminary discussions find common ground, the rest of the deal could happen very fast.
