David Ornstein released the rather interesting news earlier today that Arsenal are in contact with Chelsea over a transfer for Kai Havertz.
Fabrizio Romano jumped on the news shortly after to claim that Chelsea want £75m for the attacker, while Arsenal will not pay that amount. That is hardly surprising, and we suspect Chelsea would ultimately accept significantly less.
Romano adds that Real Madrid, who were the other side linked to Havertz, won’t pay above £50m. That seems too low for Chelsea to accept, to us. If Arsenal are seriously interested and willing to pay more than £50m, that should rule Madrid out of the race entirely.
Whatever happens, there’s now decent interest in the attacker, and that should mean we can make a sale if we want to. That should free up the money we need to finally sign a decent striker. We don’t expect Arsenal to go much over £60m, but if we can get that we’ve done well.
