Christopher Nkunku has unofficially been a Chelsea player for almost a year – but it’s only now that we get to see him in a Blue shirt and hear him give his first interview to the club.
The attacker is clearly excited to get stuck in to life at the club after waiting a year to get started, as is clear from his words to the club’s official website. There is a lot of excitement about players we have just signed and players we are hoping to sign, but Nkunku perhaps will be the best of all.
Here are some of his words on his decision to join Chelsea:
“I think the project was good for me. It is a good project for me to develop myself as a player and a man also. And this is a good city, after all, and for sure I want to improve in football and I want to win trophies and improve myself also. So I think this is a good project for me at this moment. This is a good project, for sure.
“It never surprised me because it is just about my motivation. I want to improve, to progress every day, so wherever they tell to me to play, I play, and I wanted to improve in every position. So that’s the way I go about everything and why I was able to score goals after changing.
“I was not surprised because I know my qualities, I know what I am capable to do, so I’m not surprised.”
It’s interesting to hear him speak so honestly about his personality – we want more leaders than quiet characters, but there’s plenty of room for other to grow into that role. As long as Nkunku scores the goals we need him to, he can do whatever he likes.
