Inter owner speaks about Romelu Lukaku future after Champions League final defeat

Inter Milan owner Steven Zhang was obviously pretty gutted after his team’s defeat in the Champions League final, but he still found the time to give an update on the future of Romelu Lukaku.

The striker didn’t start the game – but is clearly a popular figure in Milan, and as Zhang said, they’re keen to keep him.

Romelu loves Inter, that’s very clear. He’s great guy but he’s under contract at Chelsea. We have to wait and speak to Chelsea to make Lukaku’s future clear,” the owner explained.

They’re playing a careful game with the striker – they don’t want to admit they really want him to stay otherwise Chelsea will be able to ask for more money, but equally they can’t deny he’s been great for them and that they’d ultimately like him to be a part of their team in the future – especially if they’re forced to sell Lautaro Martinez this summer.

It was a classic Lukaku game in many ways – he came on, caused loads of trouble and really looked to threaten City’s defensive line in a way that none of Inter’s other strikers could.

But when it came down to it, his main two contributions to the game were blocking a goalbound header from a teammate and then heading his own point blank effort right at Ederson.

The guy is just cursed in these big moments it seems.

  1. “Cursed?” It’s precisely this attitude from Chelsea supporters like SuperFrank that has Lukaku wanting nothing to do with the club! Answer me this: Would Inter even BE In the UCL Final without Lukaku?
