OFFICIAL: Chelsea announce Christopher Nkunku signing

Chelsea have finally officially announced the signing of Christopher Nkunku almost a year after completing the deal behind closed doors.

The 25 year old join from RB Leipzig on a 6 year contract which starts on the 1st of July.

The attacker had the following to say about his move on the club’s official website:

“I am incredibly happy to be joining Chelsea. A big effort was made to bring me to the club and I am looking forward to meeting my new coach and teammates and showing the Chelsea supporters what I can do on the pitch.

“Having played in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga, I now want to play in the Premier League, one of the strongest leagues in the world. I am very excited for this challenge and will be proud to wear the Chelsea shirt.”

Our co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart added the following:

“Christopher has proved himself one of the standout attacking players in European football over the past two seasons and will add quality, creativity and versatility to our squad.

“He has demonstrated his ability at the highest level with RB Leipzig and France and we look forward to him joining up with his new teammates ahead of the new season.”

Nkunku was top scorer in the Bundesliga last season, and while he’s not a pure number 9, he will be expected to play up top a lot for Chelsea it seems, and will be the creative and goalscoring hub of the team under Mauricio Pochettino. We’ve been waiting for this day for a long time, and we can finally now start looking forward to a whole new era.

The attacker, who has 10 caps, has long looked ready to step up to the top level, and while Chelsea aren’t there at this very moment, they will be very soon if Nkunku lives up to expectations.
