Chelsea have just announced they have agreed a deal to sign Jamaica international Dujuan Richards, who will join the club following his 18th birthday.
The 17 year old has been a goal machine at youth level, and has already made his senior Jamaica debut.
The lightning quick striker doesn’t have the kind of top European academy pedigree of some players, but that may be what our scouts are looking for here – raw physical and technical potential that can be moulded into something special.
He scored 31 goals and picked up 19 assist in the Manning Cup, an under 19 tournament regarded as the pinnacle of youth football in his home country, where he’s been playing for the Phoenix Academy.
Presumably set for a spell in our Development Squad, Richards will need more experience than some of his peers given the level he’s been playing at, but certainly has the tools to be a brilliant player. Our commitment to securing the best under 20 players on the market continues.
