Real Madrid insider says that Kai Havertz is top choice after Harry Kane

Real Madrid today confirmed the rumours that have swirled all week – Karim Benzema will leave the club.

His backup Mariano Diaz has also been let go, and Marco Asensio (who filled in up top regularly this season) is heading to PSG. That means a big hole in Madrid’s attack, and they know who they want to fill it – Harry Kane.

But Kane will be hard to sign, and if they don’t manage it, they also have an eye on Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz. That’s according to AS’s Tomas Roncero, speaking on El Chiringuito’s special show this afternoon:

“Apart from Kane, Havertz is a player which the sporting directors of Madrid like a lot,” he revealed.

It sounds like they will still press for Kane, but unless he makes a major effort on his part, it’s hard to see Spurs giving him up. He may also be tempted to stay put in the Premier League and try to become the division’s top scorer of all time.

Many Chelsea fans who are keen to shift Havertz will be hoping he does just that. Chelsea need a striker of their own, and getting rid of the German international will free up vital funds for that pursuit.

Maybe Chelsea sign Kane? Maybe Tottenham sign Havertz? Maybe Madrid sign both, or neither? There’s an exciting summer of striker circulation in prospect for all these teams.

  1. To speak of Kai Havertz in the same sentence as Harry Kane (unless the sentence is about how their first and last names begin with the same letters, just flip-flopped!) just seems silly. Real Madrid may indeed admire Havertz, but I don’t believe for a second that they see him as a suitable Plan B to Kane to replace Benzema as their main goal scorer. Someone is surely pulling our leg, lol!
