Top French source updates on Manuel Ugarte: Club pushing player ‘to join Chelsea’

There was a lot of noise around last night and again this morning regarding Chelsea’s attempts to sign Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon.

The midfielder has become a very sought-after target for clubs, especially Chelsea now Mauricio Pochettino has arrived there. The Argentine is said to be the driving force behind Chelsea’s attempts to sign Ugarte.

But they are not alone, because PSG are also admirers and trying to sign the 22-year-old this summer.

Despite some premature reports suggesting Ugarte to Chelsea is done, that does not appear to yet be the case.

Julien Laurens of ESPN is a super reliable French reporter, and he has the latest on it this morning.

He says Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Ugarte, but an agreement has not yet been reached with the player.

Both Chelsea and PSG have offered to trigger Ugarte’s release clause of €60 million. However, unlike the Parisians, Chelsea are adding solidarity payments and various bonuses which makes their proposition more attractive.

Sporting are even encouraging and pushing Ugarte to choose Chelsea ahead of PSG, who are still hoping to convince him. A full agreement between Chelsea and Sporting is now close.
