Benoit Badiashile wasn’t a signing many saw coming.
The deal was done quite quickly in January, without a whole lot of rumour and build up, and he was straight into action. The fact that we had signed Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana in the summer fooled people into thinking we wouldn’t reinforce at centre back, but 6 months later almost every fan you speak to will tell you they’re glad we did.
A look back at his highlights from his time at the club so far will remind you just why. Strong in the air and in duels, confident in passing forward, he looks like a gem. He had his shaky moments, as you’d expect from any player new to the Premier League, but he also played in a very ropey defence at times, and could look a lot more confident if playing ahead of a good goalkeeper and behind a well organised midfield.
