Felix Johnston is reporting Liverpool are trying to sign Levi Colwill, and have been in touch with his agents even though Chelsea insist he’s not for sale.
The Reds are keen on a new central defender, and Colwill looks to be the best of his generation among English players.
Johnston claims that one of the reasons that Jurgen Klopp’s side haven’t signed a defender yet is because they are hoping to land Colwill. He also seems to have information about a private conversation between England manager Gareth Southgate and Colwill where the Three Lions boss said he can only pick the defender at the Euros next summer if he plays regularly this season.
Understand despite being told Colwill is not for sale, Liverpool have spoken to Levi Colwill’s camp again, stating even at a record price they would be interested.
He’s one reason they haven’t signed a CB. Liverpool also enquired to Chelsea directly.
Chelsea reiterated he is… pic.twitter.com/10g16T5R6F

Now we really have our doubts about the veracity of all this. It stinks of a Tweet which is just educated guesswork – it’s all very hard to disprove basically. There are a million reasons that Liverpool might not have signed a centre back yet, and it seems unlikely that Southgate would make promises like that – and even more unlikely that Johnston would know about them.
We certainly believe that Liverpool want to sign Colwill, but only in the same way that every team in the country wants to sign him.
