Carney Chukwuemeka picks up brutal injury after superb first half

Poor Carney Chukwuemeka.

The injury to Christopher Nkunku gave him a brilliant opportunity to be Mauricio Pochettino’s man between the lines, and he grabbed the chance with both hands, first against Liverpool last week and again today against West Ham in the first half.

He looked great, scored a superb goal, and then, because this is Chelsea, was carried off injured.

Maybe we’re being extra negative just because of the rash of horrible injuries around the league in the last few weeks, but we can’t help being worried that this will be a bad one.

We will find out more after the game, but given it looks like a twisted knee, we probably won’t know much until a scan is done in the next few days. It will be a worrying period of waiting.

What’s even scarier for Carney is his future – what if he’s out for 9 months? Suddenly Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Nkunku will all have jumped the queue ahead of him.
