This time yesterday, rumours starting circulating that Reece James had picked up a serious hamstring injury.
There was widespread panic – he’s had such bad injury issues over the last two years, and even missed the end of last season with a problem just like this. For him to relapse in training, after just one game of the new season, was devastating news that not only hurts us in the short term, but all but cements the reality that he’s going to be in an endless fitness battle for his whole career.
Nobody was quite able to confirm how serious it was though, and today’s rather mysterious update on the Chelsea website doesn’t reveal much more.
In a break from their usual format, they simply list all our injured players and their current status. James is listed as “starting rehabilitation having undergone assessments on an injury sustained in training this week.”
We’re really not sure what to make of this, and as always, we will have to wait for the manager’s press conference to find out more detail.

Quick recovery, Reece.
Chelsea should stop rushing James to fitness let’s give him time
