(Video): Raheem Sterling disappoints as Mauricio Pochettino closes in on his favoured team

If you missed last night’s draw with Dortmund, you can see the highlights in the clip from Chelsea TV embedded here.

The team Mauricio Pochettino chose to start the game looks very close to the one he will pick against Liverpool in our first competitive game next week – with a couple of question marks.

Raheem Sterling will almost certainly be in, as a really experienced player who Pochettino seems to like, but there are plenty of Chelsea fans who have seen enough and want younger and more exciting players in the team right away.

Some see his performance last night as confirmation that he shouldn’t be a starter – others disagree.

  1. BLOODY HELL !!! IN A NINE NINUTE CLIP C.F.C. HAD FOURTEEN CLEAR CUT CHANCES TO SCORE. MISSSSED ALL BUT ONE. SAME OLD STORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I do not understand how Sterling gets selected in front of other more consistent players, selecting him in the 1st eleven means Chelsea are starting with 10 players, the quicker Chelsea get him out the door the better for everyone.

  3. For anyone who’s been paying attention none of this should be news. Pep’s system was an ideal situation for Sterling because it kept the ball and the player moving and made it difficult for defenders to bully Sterling (which is all too easy to do), and yet even City let him go, lol! At this point in his career he simply isn’t an elite player any longer and is a real liability except in situations where he can play a 1-2 and still use his abundant quickness to receive the ball in space (unmolested). But for all other intents and purposes he’s a mostly average player and nowhere near good enough to be a starter with us.

  4. I never wanted Sterling at Chelsea and he has proven to be one of our very worst signings of recent years. He should be sold no matter how little we get for him because it would greatly improve our team and cut our wage bill. Angelo or Madueke are much better players in the same position.
