Chelsea have drawn Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Cup fourth round, following the Blues’ victory over Brighton at Stamford Bridge tonight.
Blackburn are a mid table team through 8 games in the Championship so far, and should present significantly fewer problems than Brighton, who could – and probably should – have won the game tonight in the first half.
But for one Chelsea got a couple of slices of luck, and it’s Mauricio Pochettino’s team who progress. The domestic cups are our only non-Premier League action this season, and present a good chance to rebuild morale and continue to blood an exceptionally young and inexperienced squad.
We will need to play better than we did tonight to get much further, but by the time this fixture is played in a little over a month’s time, we may well have turned the corner and finally be starting to see the fruits of Pochettino’s labours.
