We’ve not been taking the whispers about Chelsea watching Aaron Ramsdale too seriously.
The stories have started coming out since Mikel Arteta replaced his goalkeeper with David Raya at the weekend – apparently just a case of “rotation,” but potentially a lot more.
The rumours seem to have very obviously come from either Ramsdale’s party, presumably disgruntled, or just from transfer journalists putting two and two together to make a story.
But Jason Burt of the Telegraph, speaking on Sky Sports today, said this is “definitely one to watch.”
You can see Burt make his point in the clip embedded here:

He points out that Ramsdale is battling to be England number one, with the Euros coming up next summer, and won’t want to be benched for even a single game. Even if Arteta’s rotation is just that, it still might frustrate Ramsdale more than other players in his position given his situation trying to displace Jordan Pickford in Gareth Southgate’s side.
Still, even if he were to move to Chelsea on January 1st, it hardly gives him much time to unseat a very settled long term Southgate favourite in any case.
