Chelsea have just put up their goal of the month competition for August, a month which started with such promise and ended in pretty grim fashion.
Carney Chukwuemeka’s effort against West Ham is a pretty obvious front runner. He shimmied inside and bent a perfect shot in at the far post with no backlift. Just lovely.
It was not only a great goal, it was also a great moment – it felt like the moment Carney was announcing himself as a Chelsea starter.
Sadly we all know what happened not long afterwards.
