Simon Phillips has just published a nice in depth piece about Christopher Nkunku and his injury recovery on the Si Phillips Talks Chelsea website.
He says that the summer signing is splitting his time between Paris (where he is visiting specialists) and London where he continues to settle and do physio. He’s close to a return to cardio work, which basically then slowly ramps up to him coming back to the team.
“Chelsea will soon be setting him up with light training before introducing him back in to full team training,” Phillips wrote.
“They of course will be super careful and cautious as they look to reintroduce Nkunku to training and back into the squad.
“But it’s sounding positive right now and the recovery is going well. We should soon be seeing him back in Chelsea training gear at the very least, and then in a matchday squad. Slowly but surely.”
Initially it was thought that the France international would be back in December, so the fact that there is “hope” that happens is positive, although it’s perhaps looking less likely than it did a couple of months ago.
As Si says, we can’t wait to see him back in Chelsea training gear and at Cobham with the rest of the team – even though, of course, the closer he gets to a return, the more impatient we will be.
