“He still has a keen admirer in Arteta” – Chelsea star could have ended up at Blues’ rivals

Ahead of the weekend’s big fixture at Stamford Bridge, world-renowned football publication The Athletic have published a story written by Chelsea correspondent Liam Twomey, in which the focus was on looking at the transfer battles between the two clubs.

In the article, it was revealed that Chelsea star Raheem Sterling was wanted by current Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, and that he is still a keen admirer of the England international.

Raheem was signed by Todd Boehly in the summer of 2022 for 47.5 million pounds, in what at the time was viewed as an excellent and potentially game-changing signing for Chelsea’s attack.

Fast forward a year or so and it is fair to say that Raheem has not had the intended impact, but there is context to that with Chelsea firing Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and pulling in Frank Lampard for the rest of the 2022/23 campaign.

The attack has not been settled, relationships haven’t had time to build and flourish on the pitch and although he should have done better overall since joining, there is still promise he can return to the form he displayed for years at Manchester City, with the performance last weekend at Burnley showing that his ability has certainly not hit it’s expiry date.
