“It shows authority” – pundit praises Enzo Fernandez over penalty incident

Jamie Carragher has given praise to Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández over the penalty incident where Raheem Sterling tried to take the ball off eventual goalscorer Cole Palmer at the weekend.

Sterling was seen trying to take the ball of Palmer, who took the last penalty for Chelsea against Burnley, and scored Enzo Fernández quickly pointed to Sterling, telling him to give the ball to Cole Palmer.

Carragher really likes the attitude by Enzo, and told Sky Sports that it showed authority.

Considering Sterling’s age and experience, it was a surprise to see Enzo have that much authority over a senior player, but it just goes to show that in the dressing room Enzo must be one of the most respected players.

It would not be a surprise to me if Enzo became an eventual Chelsea captain, though for now Reece James and Ben Chilwell hold the senior positions.

The midfielder, who signed from Benfica for £106 million has been a revelation in Chelsea’s midfield since joining.
