Chelsea completed the signing of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic in January for a sum of 13.6 million pounds, but he has yet to feature for Chelsea’s first team.
I honestly thought that Petrovic would be given a go against Brighton in the Carabao Cup, but Robert Sanchez still started that match and as we sit here today, I believe that this signing was utterly pointless and once again shows that the directors and owners show a lack of squad planning.
The club signed Gabriel Slonina also from the MLS, on a long contract, again for over 10 million pounds, and have sent him on loan, so what sense does buying Petrovic make who again, came from the MLS, is relatively young and has been put on a long contract?
One could argue there has been no chance for Petrovic to play due to Robert Sanchez’s form, but I think it wouldn’t be hard to find some Chelsea fans at the ground who don’t even know who Petrovic is, and that is not their fault.
