Jamie Carragher’s look at Chelsea’s best XI has led to some pretty damning conclusions.
Even with the whole squad fit, and after a billion pounds spent, the former Liverpool star still reckons the team are “at least four top players” away from even competing with Man City.
He has doubts about Nicolas Jackson and about Robert Sanchez, and thinks we’re still short at centre back and in midfield.
We don’t agree with all of that – especially the last part – but he’s spot on that we’re still a long way off the quality of some of our rivals, despite the spending.

Carragher, as usual, misses the point. We’re not aiming to compete with City this year. A rebuild is about setting the foundation for competing year in and year out over the next decade. It’s not like City was “built in a day.†They didn’t even win the league in Pep’s first year! But that never stopped Carragher from setting up a straw man just so he could overstate a point, lol.
