Chelsea have been at their best this season with Conor Gallagher deployed in quire an attacking role.
It’s an odd combination, as the further forward he’s used, the more defensive his role tends to be. His primary role is to disrupt the opposition, it’s just useful to have a high starting position for him rather than using him to shield the defence.
But his role hasn’t stopped him from contributing in attacking areas – in fact, he’s flourished near the opposition goal.
As you can see on WhoScored, he’s got 4 assists in the Premier League, more than anyone else on the team and joint 4th in the whole division. And that’s in a pretty poor Chelsea team in most games this season.
It will be interesting to see what happens to this when Christopher Nkunku is finally in the team. He will be looking to play in similar areas and to be our main assist giver.
