Chelsea’s key decision makers torn on whether to sign Premier League player

With everything going on lately on the pitch for Chelsea, plans to improve the squad continue off of it.

Chelsea certainly need an all-round goalscoring centre forward in my opinion, but after yesterday’s awful showing against Newcastle United, perhaps they need more than that? But where does it stop? They’ve already spent close to £1billion since the new owners took charge of the club and they are still putting in embarrassing performances like that. Does this young team need more time to develop? Are they even good enough? Have more mistakes been made in recruitment? These are all valid questions being asked by Chelsea fans right now.

But one thing I am sure about is the striker, and Ivan Toney continues to be linked. However, according to The Daily Mirror, there is a problem there.

Like Napoli with Victor Osimhen, who is also liked by Chelsea, Brentford may not sell Toney until the summer due to a shortage of strikers when AFCON comes early next year.

But also, on Chelsea’s side, Chelsea’s key transfer decision-makers are already believed to be torn on an approach for 27-year-old Toney and that’s before even considering his whopping price-tag. Though, it must be noted that Pochettino will now have the final say on incomings.

Mirror sources suggest Brentford now value Toney at £100m, although it’s understood offers in the region of £80m would likely be considered.

Toney could, however, be available for closer to £60m next summer when he is due to enter the final 12 months of his Brentford contract. There is also a sense the centre-forward would favour a move to Arsenal, who have shelved their interest until the end of the season.
