Raheem Sterling has gone from a England regular to England outcast, and it’s generating headlines every time an international break comes along and he’s left out. On TalkSport they took calls about the issue this morning.
It’s an interesting debate – he’s been a great servant for England, and he played his best game for Chelsea against Man City at the weekend. Shouldn’t that be enough to get him in?
But as one caller points out, he has also had some shocking games, and Gareth Southgate can’t pick his team based only on a match here or there. He’s thinking about next summer and beyond, and players like Jarrod Bowen have earned their places too.
