Chelsea fans who are excited to see wonderkid Kendry Paez in training next week have someone pretty important among their number – manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The coach was asked what he knew about Paez in the press conference yesterday following his latest goal.
As a South American star, it turns out Pochettino is all over the news:
“Of course, I know him. He is playing in the Ecuador national team. He was the youngest to make his debut. I follow the national teams, I follow them in South America, he is our player and I know him very well. He is a great talent.â€
All too often we’ve had managers who seemed pretty oblivious to what goes on outside their direct remit. We’ll never forget Maurizio Sarri saying he hadn’t seen Callum Hudson-Odoi’s England debut.
So it’s great to see Pochettino so switched on and following one of the brightest prospects on the club’s books. Of course, he’s the manager, in a way it’s the least we should expect. It will be interesting to see what he makes of him in training next week.
