WhoScored gave Malo Gusto a 7.9 out of 10 last night for his performance, making him the highest rated player on the Chelsea team.
It was well deserved. Initially deployed on the right, he later moved to the left to help the team out as Mauricio Pochettino shuffled things around. He did well down both flanks, and set up the opening Chelsea goal.
It was one of his best games in Blue, and a sign of things to come if we can just keep him fit and playing for an extended period. He’s not been able to achieve much consistency, but that’s more down to injuries and to the team’s struggles than through much fault of his own.
Overall he’s having a strong first season in the Premier League, and if he can play consistently from now until the end of the season the team will be much better off for it.
What a difference he made! Colwill and Disasi have done OK as makeshift outside backs (at least they know how to defend), but it’s really hurt us not having any wide threat from those positions in the final third. Gusto’s play is a reminder of just how dangerous this squad can be when our outside backs are healthy and bombing down the flanks.
