Sam Matterface and TalkSport both generally put out a lot more nonsense than sense, but even a stopped clock is right twice a day, and his summary of the ridiculous Conor Gallagher situation was very good.
“It’s ludicrous” that the club are trying to sell a player who is proving his worth every week, Matterface pointed out. He’s good, he’s home grown, the manager likes him and he actually has Premier League experience, unlike the rest of the squad. So why are we so desperate to shift him?
As Matterface says, Chelsea have spent a billion pounds…. even if they get the £50m you want for Gallagher, it’s “not going to touch the sides” of that gap.
You can see Matterface make his point in the clip embedded here:
“The idea of losing Gallagher is ridiculous!”
“He’s incredibly important. He’s become a symbol of the club. Why sell your captain?!”

What’s equally ludicrous is that a significant portion of the fan base is moaning so loudly about Nicolas Jackson that they are applying immense pressure on the ownership to bring in a new striker. With Napoli’s Osimhen mooted as the likely #1 target, his +100m price tag would make the sale of Gallagher (at an estimated 50m) a virtual necessity. So maybe all the loud mouths who want to see Gallagher stay need to pipe down regarding Jackson, lol! Despite his latest he was inarguably a net positive on the night. Not only did he have a quality finish on the goal that was called back for offsides, but he had an important carry late in the game from deep in his own half. He also showed excellent strength and balance in keeping possession on the ball that he played Mudryk in on.
It’s really that simple. If we don’t need to dip back into the transfer market to the tune of 100m then the pressure to sell Gallagher evaporates. It’s not like the owners have it in for the guy who’s arguably been one of our best 2 or 3 players in nearly every match. They just have no other way of funding the extravagant demands of a fan base that is quite frankly, spoiled rotten and always seems to believe the grass is going to be greener with the next transfer.
