We would really rather Trevoh Chalobah didn’t leave Chelsea, but if he does, there’s a move that makes a lot of sense.
We’d rather have Chalobah as our backup centre back, given he’s home grown, versatile and a great guy. But we’re sadly beyond that point now – we’ve already signed defenders to replace him, and now there is a financial need to sell to balance the books.
For more than a year the prospect of a sale has been clear, and various clubs have been linked, but right now it seems to be Jose Mourinho’s Roma who are top of the pile. We love that idea for Trevoh. We’ve seen Cobham products like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori look great in Serie A, and we think the same would be true with Trevoh.
A major question mark is over the Italian club’s ability to pay the money we want. But after missing all of this season so far, the asking price for the 24 year old has surely come down quite a lot, and if he thinks a move to Roma would be as smart as we do, a deal can probably happen.
